Fall 2005
When I'm not working on web
sites, developing content, writing, or teaching ESL, I keep busy by...
Updating the Bunny
Buddies Web Site
I had been wanting to redesign its content for ages and finally got the
chance this past summer. Check
it out at www.bunnybuddies.org.
Practicing My
Copperplate Calligraphy
This summer I attended Karla Hamilton's summer workshop on B nibs, offered through
the Houston Calligraphy Guild.
I also accepted my first paid Copperplate assignment addressing envelopes for a November wedding
(Thanks for the referral, Terry Hausner!). Check out my latest efforts,
mistakes and all at Anomaly - Calligraphy.
Somehow, my "Irish Blessing" from
June 2004 has become highly ranked on Google Images. Normally I would say,
Cherchez la femme, but in this case I suspect that James Murdoch, a
writer living in Cypress, Texas, is behind it :-)
Volunteering with
EYH
This will be my 14th year to volunteer with the Expanding
Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics™ conference. This year I'm
wearing the director hat, so please join me in praying for minimal
catastrophes :-)
Being a
Mom, Foster and Otherwise
For more than a year now, we have had the pleasure of fostering two
wonderful buns, Copper and Foster (or Handsome, as I've come to call him).
Copper was adopted on Sept. 2, so now Foster is an only (foster) child. If you would like to become a foster family, or if you would like to adopt,
visit www.bunnybuddies.org.
And, when I'm not changing litter boxes :-) I
find myself saying things like, "Stop throwing grapes at the ceiling
fan," "Lips together while chewing, please," and other
sentences I never thought I'd utter :-)
Getting Published
Okay, so it's not the New Yorker, but who would have ever thought
that I'd be in a cookbook?! The West
Harris County Branch of AAUW is publishing a cookbook as a fundraiser,
and several of my recipes actually made it in there (along with several
accomplished cooks'). Stop by their web site and order a copy when you get
a chance.
Helping Out at
School
We also keep busy helping out at our child's school, which is very
worthwhile. Last year, for example, the teacher talked me into teaching a
class on Spanish. Let's just say I could have charged admission! :-)
Recruiting
Volunteers for the Quilt Show Fundraiser
Put aside any preconceived notions you have about an event called "the
Quilt Show." I can barely sew a button, but each year the exquisite
beauty and mathematical designs of the exhibits at the International
Quilt Festival continue to inspire me. Over the years, this event has
helped raise thousands of dollars for some of our favorite charities.
That's about it for me. Drop us a line
sometime and let us know what you're up to!
